Participatory methodologies with children in vulnerable urban environments: co-produce experiences and storytelling of their path to school
Marcela Soto – Professor and Coordinator of Urban Planning in the Department of Architecture of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Chile

While existing literature focuses on methodologies to raise children’s perception of public space through mock-ups or interviews, this has overlooked the depth and complexity of the family and school community’s role in their life. This presentation introduces a new analytic participatory methodology, triangulating urban actors, where childhood is the protagonist of the characterization of urban mobility. Through a series of qualitative techniques, surveys, and workshops, it was possible to characterize the path to school with and from the leading role of children, involving families and schools. We will present 375 children’s families and schools and how they live in Valparaíso, Chile.

the Participatory Children and Youth Million
Nada Taha Ali Mohamed – Head of Junges Wien

In the course of the presentation I will present the project of the Participatory Children and Youth Million of the City of Vienna. It is unique in this form and is anchored in the Vienna Children and Youth Strategy as one of 193 measures to make Vienna the most child- and youth-friendly city in the world. I will talk about the various ways we involve young people in this process and share how we make sure that young people and city administration discuss in a meaningful way and come to co-created decisions that are clear and understandable for everyone involved.
